OECD Factbook visualized with Gapminder

Staffan Landin’s comment on OECD Factbook is worth to be upgraded to a special post!  In fact all the data from this pocket book have been integrated into Gapminder Graphs Community and are now visualized in trendalyzer style.  A huge work as all the tables had to bee uploaded to Google spreadsheets; it would be very interesting to know if there exists (or is planned) a database connection to upload data into Google spreadsheets. I am sure Staffan can give an answer to this issue.

  1. In Stockholm Russell Penlington from OECD mentioned in his presentation that he developed a tool to upload data. The tool can be shared, so I hope he can let us know where to get it. As I understood it’s not a database connection, but still makes the work much easier.

  2. In Stockholm it was concluded that all general presentation tools such as Gapminder ought to be able to feed from SDMX-ML web services. Statistical organisations (such as OECD or national statistical offices) should offer SDMX web services out of their databases – which OECD does already, see http://www.oecd.org/document/12/0,3343,en_2649_35845581_38754444_1_1_1_1,00&&en-USS_01DBC.html
This is the way to unveil the beauty of statistics across organisations. This will be discussed in the upcoming SDMX Global Conference in Paris 19-21 January 2009.

  3. I am very interested in obtaining, learning and using Trendlizer.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Where it is tought if anywhere. groups any leads.
    Please write back.
