The governing board of the Swedish Statistics Association has named Professor Hans Rosling “The Swedish Statistician of the Year”. Hans Rosling is also in the news because of the acquisition of the software Trendalyzer by Google. The software works with the animation of statistics and was developed by the Gapminder Foundation.
The motivation is as follows:
“Hans Rosling and the Gapminder Foundation have, in an innovative way, managed to combine expertise in public health with existing statistics and the possibilities of technical visualisation. Using computerised animations, developments in health and welfare in an international perspective are presented in a dynamic and pedagogical way. Hans Rosling and the Gapminder Foundation are able to reach a very wide audience base with their presentation of statistics.”
Here is an example of Hans Roslings excellence in statistical story telling:
The prize will be presented at the annual meeting of the Swedish Statistics Association on the evening of 22 March.
